États liminaux focuses on threshold states in which identities, images, and expressions loosen from fixed forms and enter zones of transition and ambiguity. Each work becomes a site where boundaries shift, meanings remain unsettled, and perception opens to layered, unstable presences.

Fatih Karatekin’s layered passport photographs form visual alloys in which the traces of individual identity dissolve into a collective face. These portraits belong to no single subject; they manifest an in-between presence shaped through interaction—identity as a fluid, multilayered process.

Emre Eroğlu’s floor piece appears and disappears with the viewers’ footsteps. The phrase “ben, böyle, benim.” (“i, am, as i am.”), written in plaster dust, reflects the artist’s search for a place for their own identity—caught between belonging and exclusion, presence and erasure.

Coşkun Demirok’s drawings lie along the line between representation and abstraction. They suggest meaning yet withhold it, forming a larger, puzzle-like composition that emphasizes drawing as an open gesture rather than a narrative tool.

Together, these practices create a space of porous identities and fleeting forms—an environment where nothing is fixed and every image remains in transition.

"Limen" means "threshold" in Latin. "État liminal" refers to a transitional state where transformation is incomplete, and identity or meaning is suspended. It is often associated with ritual, passage, and identity shifts.

États liminaux, kimliklerin, imgelerin ve ifadelerin sabit biçimlerden çözülerek geçiş ve belirsizlik alanlarına yayıldığı eşik hâllerine odaklanıyor. Her yapıt, sınırların gevşediği, anlamın yer değiştirdiği ve algının kararsız ama çok katmanlı varlıklara açıldığı bir mekân yaratıyor.

Fatih Karatekin’in üst üste bindirilmiş vesikalıkları, bireysel kimliği silerek kolektif bir yüze dönüşen görsel alaşımlar oluşturuyor. Bu yüzler belirli bir özneye ait değiller; etkileşimle şekillenen, geçiş hâlindeki çok katmanlı bir kimlik deneyimini açığa çıkarıyorlar.

“Limen” Latince'de “eşik” anlamına gelir. “État liminal” demek, bir eşikte olma hâli: dönüşümün henüz tamamlanmadığı, kimliğin, anlamın veya durumun askıda kaldığı geçici bir durum. Genellikle ritüel, geçiş, kimlik dönüşümü ile ilişkilendirilir.

Fatih Karatekin

received his undergraduate degree from the Faculty of Communication at Ankara University, Radio, Television, and Cinema Department. He has been working on archives and found footage films since 2014. He creates video art works as a result of manipulating materials such as Betamax, 8mm, and 16mm films, and he builds his archive on subjects such as illness, death, etc.

Coşkun Demirok

was born in Ankara and has been living in Düsseldorf since 1971. From 1999 to 2017, he was one of the partners of the "DGM-Architekten" office in Krefeld. In addition to architecture, he has continuously maintained his identity as an artist. Düsseldorf, where he realized a series of joint projects with Turkish artists. In recent years, with the reestablishment of his connection to Ankara, he has created "garage" as his workspace and further „artspace for experience“. In recent years, his areas of interest have expanded to include not only plastic arts but also text collages, performance, installation, and acoustic art.
