At „Garage“, we present three different approaches to the theme „identity“ through three works of collage.
Buse Coşkun defines her position through visual sequences that she creates as a result of observing other lives/other people’s lives. These sequences, which at times give the impression of film frames reassembled after being disconnected from their contexts, do not lean towards a concrete narrative. The eyes turn into binoculars directed at lives from a distance. Coşkun positions the viewer twice in the same role. The viewer, who directs their gaze at the artwork, surpasses the work itself by focusing on the details, becoming an observer.
MDD sometimes functions as a mirror reflecting his close surroundings, and at other times as a lens focusing on details. While doing this, he creates surreal spaces, equipping them with new clues. And he always turns back to himself, meeting with his own essence. He succeeds in bringing the audience into this meeting. Our eyes drift from detail to detail, observing the subtle movements that dominate the composition. MDD offers us a different kind of aesthetic. Perhaps he calls us to another world—one that we have long forgotten, distant, soft, and filled with subtleties.
Coşkun Demirok traces his own path through objects. The negative details of private 'objects' are used to express their inaccessibility. The wooden prints of the images present themselves as a horizontal collage/installation. In this work, Demirok strives to capture and describe the reality that defines him. However, he is aware of how futile this search can be.

Garage'da üç collage çalışması üzerinden benlik konusuna üç farklı yaklaşımı seyirciye gösteriyoruz.
Buse Coşkun kendi pozisyonunu başka yaşamların/başkalarının yaşamlarının gözlemi sonucu oluşturduğu görsel dizileriyle tanımlıyor. Yer yer bağlamlarından koparılmış film karelerinin yeniden biraraya getirildiği izlenimini veren diziler, somut bir anlatıya yönelmiyorlar. Gözler, yasamlara uzaktan yönelmiş bir dürbüne dönüşüyorlar. Coşkun izleyiciyi iki kez aynı sıfatla konumlandırıyor. Sanat işine gözlerini yöneltmiş izleyici, bu kez ayrıntılara yönelerek işin kendisini aşıyor, bir gözlemci oluyor.
MDD kendini bazen yakın çevresini yansıtan bir ayna, bazen ise ayrıntılara yönelen bir mercek olarak işlevlendiriyor. Bunu gerçekleştirirken gerçeküstü mekanlar yaratıyor, onları yeni ipuçlarıyla donatıyor. Ve hep yeniden kendine yöneliyor, kendi benliğiyle buluşuyor. Gözlerimiz ayrıntıdan ayrıntıya kayıyor, kompozisyona hakim olan kıpırtıları izliyor. MDD bize, başka bir estetiği öneriyor. Belki de bizleri çoktan unuttuğumuz, mesafeli, yumuşak ve inceliklerle dolu başka bir dünyaya cağırıyor.
Coşkun Demirok kendi izini nesneler üzerinden sürüyor. Özel „şeylerin“ negatiflere dönüştürülmüş detay fotoğrafları, onların artık erişilemezliğini dile getirme amacıyla kullanılıyor. İmajların ahşap baskıları yatay bir kolaj/yerleştirme olarak karşımıza çıkıyor. Demirok bu calışmasinda onu kendisi yapan gerçeği yakalamaya, tarif etmeye çabalıyor. Ama o, bunun ne denli beyhude bir arayış olduğunun bilincinde.

Buse Coşkun, born and raised in Ankara, is studying Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Hacettepe University. In addition to her design education, she discovered 'collage' as a form of expression and another field of creativity for herself.
Born and raised in Kigali,Rwanda, MDD is a mixed-media artist whose work serves as a personal diary, exploring identity through life’s highs and lows. He blends various mediums to express the emotional complexities of his inner world, reflecting the power of self-expression and the beauty within the human experience.
Coşkun Demirok, born in Ankara, living in Düsseldorf since 1971, where he also received his architecture education. He was a partner at the 'DGM Architekten' office. He has continuously pursued his artistic identity. In recent years, with the reconnection to Ankara, he established 'garage' as his workspace. His areas of interest have shifted in recent years to include not only painting but also text collages, performance, installation, and acoustic art.
